O’Neill Wins PBA Rockaway Eastern Open for 10th PBA Regional Title
Rockaway, N.J. (April 13, 2014) – Bill O’Neill of Langhorne, Pa. defeated Joe Paluszek of Bensalem, Pa., 185-165, in the Professional Bowlers Association Rockaway Eastern Open presented by Storm at Rockaway Lanes Sunday to claim his 10th career PBA Regional title and a $2,500 first prize.
Paluszek dominated qualifying and retained the lead on Sunday after posting a 7-5 match play record. O’Neill, who qualified second, also went 7-5 in match play and defeated Ryan Shafer of Horseheads, N.Y., 279-247, to advance to the title match.
Shafer started the four-man stepladder finals by defeating John Furey of Freehold, N.J., 212-201. Paluszek earned $1,300 for second place, Shafer earned $1,100 for third and Furey earned $1,000 for fourth place.
The PBA East Region’s next tournament will be the PBA Colony Park North Challenge at Colony Park Lanes North in York, Pa., May 23-24. The event is open to any PBA member without a title and any non-member who has never won a PBA event.
